Buyers next to visitors whose purchase was never observed: vitals and cart calls.
Answers "was the site slower for the people who did not finish" - about the PEOPLE, so the vitals cover each cohort's whole journey, not only its funnel pages. Per-stage numbers ride along for the page-level view.
checkout_no_success is a cohort, not an abandonment count. It means no
success pageview was OBSERVED, and a real buyer falls into it whenever the
success is invisible: a payment redirect landing on a thank-you page
without the tracker, a purchase finished after the 24h stitch rotation or
on another device, Shopify's off-site checkout. Comparing what was measured
for two observed groups is a fact; calling the second group lost is not.

A list rather than two named fields: customer-defined funnels evaluate later with N steps, and their "reached step k, never step k+1" cohorts reuse this shape.
Every number here is measured over PAGEVIEWS, because the comparison is about how the site performed for each group. A visitor with no pageview in the window therefore has no row in any cohort, even when the funnel counts them as a buyer from their checkout events alone. Expect the cohort visitor counts to be at or below the funnel's step counts for the same window.
